On 27 August 2013, the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice participated in a special event celebrating 100 years of the Peace Palace and honouring the work of Bertha von Suttner, the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905.

Organised by The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Central Michigan University, The College of Humanities and Social & Behavioral Sciences of Central Michigan University, and The Planethood Foundation, speakers at the event included: Brigid Inder, Executive Director of the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice; 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Leymah Gbowee; and U.S. Ambassador for Global Criminal Justice, Stephen J. Rapp.
