Gender Issues and Child Soldiers – Prosecutor v Thomas Lubanga Dyilo
On 25 August, the closing arguments in the ICC case against Thomas Lubanga Dyilo commenced. Mr Lubanga is charged with the war crimes of enlistment and conscription of child soldiers and forcing them to participate in hostilities. This is the first case before the ICC and the first international criminal trial ever held in relation to crimes committed in the conflict in eastern DRC. It is also the first case to focus exclusively on child soldiers. Read the article by Brigid Inder about some of the gender issues for child soldiers in this case.
