Hague Principles on Sexual Violence Cited in UN Report on Sexual, Reproductive, and Gender-based Violence against Palestinians
A new report from the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, More than a Human Can Bear, exposes Israel’s systematic use of sexual, reproductive, and gender-based violence against Palestinians, including genocidal acts through the deliberate destruction of reproductive healthcare facilities in Gaza.
The report confirms what Palestinian activists have long emphasized: attacks on hospitals and maternal care centers in Gaza are not collateral damage but calculated weapons of war designed to erase Palestinian survival and self-determination.
Sexual violence is not just physical. Forced pregnancy, the destruction of reproductive healthcare, and the denial of essential medical services are deliberate acts of violence aimed at controlling and dehumanizing populations. Recognizing all forms of sexual violence, including non-physical acts, is critical for achieving justice and accountability.
We are proud that The Hague Principles on Sexual Violence are cited in the report, reinforcing the urgent need for a survivor-centered, legally sound response to these atrocities.
