International Roundtable Women, Peace and Security, 26 & 27 September
Oxfam Novib and the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice are hosting an International Roundtable Women, Peace and Security on 26 and 27 September, for thirty leading experts, policy-makers, advocates and practitioners.
The Roundtable will discuss and identify challenges and new opportunities to describe and advance a women, peace and security agenda in light of the proliferation of Security Council resolutions on this topic and other global policy developments; the experiences of women in armed conflicts and the evolution of strategies to influence peace negotiations, peace building and peace agreements; and the emergence of the second generation of National Action Plans on Resolution 1325 with new indicators and changes in national defence and foreign policy programmes.
In addition, the meeting will also analyse the demands of women victims/survivors not only for justice but also for material assistance and support following crises and armed conflicts; the role of reparations within transitional justice mechanisms; and institutional, community and network-based initiatives already shaping women, peace and security realities.
The ideas and outcomes from the Roundtable will contribute to the Global Agenda to Advance Gender Justice, to be launched in 2012.
A report and video interviews from the Roundtable will be available in the coming months.
