Women’s Initiatives at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence
The Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice will be participating in the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict next week in London, from 10-13 June 2014. The Global Summit will be the largest international gathering ever held on the issue of sexual violence in conflict.
At the Global Summit, the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice will host a panel on the progress and challenges in ensuring accountability for conflict-related crimes and the inclusion of women as stakeholders and beneficiaries of the post-conflict recovery programme intended to re-build north and north eastern Uganda. The panel will feature young women abducted by the LRA who will speak about their capture by the militia group and ultimately their escape as well as the participation of former abductees in the justice and reconciliation processes.
Staff and partners of the Women’s Initiatives will also speak on a number of other panels hosted by the ICC Trust Fund for Victims, Actionaid and the Global Summit organisers during the Fringe Programme and Expert Programme sessions.
Please note that events held during the Fringe Programme are open to the public, and no registration is necessary. Events held during the Expert Programme are open to those pre-registered for the Global Summit.
