On 14 June 2012, the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies will host a panel on Peacekeeping missions: a challenge for peace. The panel will discuss issues surrounding the role, establishment and mandate of peacekeeping missions, as well as tackle issues concerning their operation and work with governments and civil society.

The panel will be held at the Leiden University – Campus The Hague, 13th Floor Room Lange Voorhout, Thursday 14th June, 9.00 – 13.00 hrs

The panel is part of an international summer school on Women, Peace and Security, organised by the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice, Oxfam Novib, the Netherlands Institute for International Relations Clingendael, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies. The summer school is taking place in The Hague from 4 to 15 June 2012, and includes 25 participants from conflict, post-conflict and fragile states from four regions.

Panellists include Francesco Mascini, Development Advisor, the Ministry of Defence; Brigid Inder, Executive Director, Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice;Kuer Gideon Dau, Programme Manager, the New Sudan Women’s Federation; and Jort Hemmer, Sudan expert, Institute for International Relations Clingendael.
