From 31 May – 11 June, the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice will participate in the Review Conference of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, in Kampala, Uganda.   Highlights of the Women’s Initiatives events for the Review Conference include the launch of our paper for the Review Conference,  Advancing Gender Justice – A Call to Action at our Press Conference on 31 May, an all-day Women’s Court on 1 June, reception and book launch for In Pursuit of Peace, and Press Conferences on 4 and 10 June.  The Women’s Initiatives delegation will include 35 women’s rights and peace activists from Uganda, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Sudan, who will participate in the important discussions at this meeting.   As one of the largest NGO delegations planning to attend the Review Conference, the Women’s Initiatives will ensure that the global movement of women’s voices for gender justice are heard in this historic gathering.

The Review Conference will be the largest gathering of states in 2010 outside the General Assembly of the United Nations and will be attended by over 600 members of civil society.  An additional 600 more NGO representatives are expected to attend activities in the People’s Space, an area on the grounds of the conference area set aside for civil society to meet and reflect upon the progress of the Court over the first seven years of its existence.
